An international police sting has led to the arrest of the alleged mastermind of a website. The website was facilitating videos related to “real blackmail, rape, and forced sex with underage girls all around the world. The name of the administrator who ran the website was detained by a joint police operation from the Dutch (Netherland) and the United States (U.S.). The culprit is a 32- year old male who was arrested in Barendrecht, Netherland on March 9th on charges of “possession and distribution of child abuse videos and images”. This statement was made official by Europol to the press. The man who has been arrested is a Dutch national who is directly running the website DarkScandals.

DarkScandals featured videos that were objectionable and heinous. The website had videos of child abuse, rape, and other child abuse materials as stated by Europol. The website was found to have more than 2,000 videos and images which was illegal in the first place and also had sexual content according to Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre (EC3). EC3 has also supported the ongoing investigation that was jointly operated and executed by the law enforcement agencies of the Netherland and the United States. Europol said that DarkScandals had two methods by which their customers could get hold of the obscene content that the website had. The contents that were requested by customers were delivered to them via email which was made available in the downloaded form.

The viewers could either pay for their requested content using Cryptocurrencies or could even add fresh videos to the add content category of the DarkScandals websites. Surprising thing is that the website was accessible both from the clear web as well from the Dark web. The website started its journey back in 2012 around 8 years down the line and has fetched the administrator around $2 million. The culprit has also been indicted in the United States for charges relating to the distribution of child pornography, production and distribution of obscene material for sale and profit-making activities and on charges of gaining monetary benefit out of the transaction.
The name of the mastermind that operated the website (DarkScandals) is Micheal Rahim Mohammed who used the alias name “Mr Dark”. The name was made public by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to the statement made by Alysa Erichs (Executive Associate Director of Homeland Security Investigation), these materials that the website had, only victimized the marginal, innocent and vulnerable communities. She went on to assure that the agency (ICE) will continue to work with other law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute these crimes using the existing resources so that in future this kind of unfortunate events do not take place.
