The United States District Court Judge named CJ Williams has sentenced an Iowa man to over six years of imprisonment for dark web drugs resale that was purchased on the dark web. The accused has been identified to be Jack Arthur Stumberg residing in the Grundy Center of Iowa. The defendant has pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy for distributing controlled substances and a single count of the possession with the intent to distribute the controlled substances back in December 2019.
In August 2019, a two-count indictment was filed against the accused Stumberg and as well as an accomplice of conspiring to distribute drugs like LSD, MDMA and Psilocybin via dark web drugs resale. Adding to the drug distribution or drug resale conspiracy, the indictment had charged the accused with the possession of LSD and MDMA having proper intentions to distribute controlled substances.
As per the court documents, the Postal Inspectors with the help of the United States Postal Inspection Service had intercepted a suspicious package or parcel that had been addressed to the accused Stumberg’s residence, and another one had been directed to his accomplice’s apartment back in March 2019. The investigators had obtained probable cause following a “trained K-9” hit on the parcels, and they did not even wait for a search warrant to get issued. The Postal Inspectors in both the packages had discovered fifteen cannabis oil vape cartridges.
Law enforcement had received tips about the Stumberg case of dark web drugs resale as early as 2018, as stated by the court documents. The Investigators had pointed to a Snapchat post coming from Stumberg that had advertised Xanax in both forms – liquid and blotter.
The investigators had executed a search warrant at the accused Stumberg’s residence, where they have seized ecstasy and as well as an assortment of the drug-related items. The police have arrested Stumberg and his accomplice in the September of 2019. While the execution of a search warrant was going on at Stumberg’s home, the investigators had recovered evidence that directly linked Stumberg to the dark web drug purchases, which further resulted in dark web drugs resale. Evidence has also indicated that the accused had ordered large quantities of the drugs from the dark web between 2016 and 2019. He had later admitted to distributing the same controlled substances that were bought through the dark web throughout Iowa.
On the 21st of July, 2020, Judge Williams has sentenced Stumberg to 78 months (almost six and a half years) in federal prison. The sentence has also included five years of the supervised release after Stumberg ultimately serves his prison time.
